Victoria Beckham
Before I share my thoughts about this documentary let me say that I can’t name a single Spice Girls song, I’ve never watched a single soccer match of Mr. Beckham, and I don’t closely follow the mechanizations of the fashion world.
That disclaimer out of the way: I enjoyed this.
This is yet another documentary about a woman who was wronged by the misogynistic 90s - like Paris Hilton, Brittney Spears, Pamela Anderson, Martha Stewart, etc. I'm loving this trend that is allowing these women to tell their story in their own words!
This documentary shows the work Victoria has been putting in, the painful learning she had to do, and the many ups and downs that her fashion house had to endure to stay relevant and respected in the fashion world.
It serves up moments of real vulnerability, like when she admits she has an eating disorder, when she says out loud that she's not a great singer or dancer, and when she talks frankly about the financial difficulties she has had with her business.
There is a lot that isn't covered by this documentary, but it's not about her life story or the current issues being covered by tabloid news about her family. It's about her quest to build a lasting career in fashion, and in that regard it is a success.
