Spectral
This movie is for people who saw action in the military and want to be reminded of the intensity of it (both positive and negative) for two hours. It is so extra.
The premise is that American soldiers who are fighting covertly for one side of a Moldovian civil war are dying from some weird thing nobody can figure out until a guy using a top-secret set of special spectral goggles catches video of it before falling over dead.
The Americans bring in the scientist who designed the goggles, and he and a special team go deep to figure out what the heck the weird thing is. We want to believe it’s angry ghosts of war, but it isn’t.
There are so many poof! moments in this, I giggled a few times. Like, a group of soldiers arrive to the top of a cavern in a huge man-made structure and just begin repelling their way down - without attaching their ropes to anything. LOL!
The movie isn’t just pro-military, it’s pro-American military. It shines a very positive light on American science, American military know-how, American organization and chain-of-command respect.
At one point, a small group of American soldiers arrive to a Moldovian refugee camp for citizens and immediately commandeer the entire place without even acknowledging the Moldovian soldiers who had been managing it before they arrived.
If you’re up for two hours of yelling, shooting, and 100% action without any down-time, you’ll enjoy this movie.
