Young Sherlock, S01

This excellent TV show gives us the backstory of how Sherlock Holmes went from juvenile delinquent to crack detective.

We learn of Sherlock's parental dynamics and what lead to his addiction to opium. We also are shown how his relationship with Moriarty formed and why the connection with his brother Mycroft is as it in the famous books and films.

I love Guy Ritchie productions. Putting him at the helm of this was such a smart choice. As usual for Guy Ritchie productions, this one is quintessentially British, it has punchy dialog, super sharp clothing, uptempo music during the action scenes, a strong opening-sequence, and a secondary method of storytelling (in this case, hand-drawn animation).

This is feminist and multi-cultural (the cast includes the visually arresting and capable fighter Zine Tseng from 3 Body Problem, and darkly handsome Numan Acar from Legends), and is excellent TV. I look forward to Season 2.
