The Diamond Heist
This documentary of a real-life event shines under the direction of Guy Ritchie. It’s a perfect vehicle for his meaty visual style.
The music is really well-chosen, the interspersed clips of predators of the animal kingdom are hilarious, the chunky font used to introduce the characters is bold. It’s all quintessential Guy Richie.
In this, we follow professional criminals, police and journalists along the path of the crime including context of past adventures, why this crime, how they planned to do it, the measures law enforcement took to stop it, and how journalists forced themselves into the equation.
This documentary uses archival images and video, present day interviews, and recreations of key scenes to tell the story.
I enjoyed this a lot and would love to see Guy Richie take on other documentaries, gangster-related or not.
