They Cloned Tyrone
A weird and wonderful movie! The acting is first-rate, the storyline is darkly clever, and the writing is phenomenally authentic.
Teyonah Parris is not only strikingly beautiful, she’s also an excellent actress. It is nearly impossible to look away from her when she is on-screen. It isn’t just her beauty and her fabulous clothes, I found her spellbinding because she positively reeks of Woman Power.
Boyega inhabits his part so entirely, there was a voice in my head constantly reminding me that he’s British. His American accent and swagger are very convincing and he seems to have beefed up in recent years. So with his BDE and sheer physical mass, he takes up a lot of space in each scene and is the right amount of intimidating.
The handsome Jamie Foxx is the comedic relief. He ad-libbs and was given a lot of funny lines, but I did notice that, in this movie, he doesn’t have the wattage of the other two actors.
We know now that Jamie was having some medical issues while filming this, but even if that info wasn’t public knowledge, it's easy to see he wasn’t shining as brightly as usual. He carries his part extremely well though, and I felt tender toward his character, regardless of his pimpin’ ways.
With a factual kernel, this fantastic film dramatizes how the brown and black in America have been manipulated and kept down. It’s dark, science-fictiony, and unapologetically black. I loved it.
