Kill Me Three Times

Sullivan Stapleton, Alice Braga, Teresa Palmer, Callan Mulvey, Luke Hemsworth, Bryan Brown, Simon Pegg
★★

This is a black comedy, that isn’t at all funny, starring Simon Pegg who plays a private detective who dabbles in assassination.

The story is about a misogynistic creep of a guy who hires Simon’s character to follow his wife around (who he suspects is cheating on him) and when it is discovered that she is, in fact, cheating on him, he asks Simon’s character to kill her. That is the very stupid plot.

The casting is poor, the script is bad, there is plenty of casual misogyny and toxic masculinity. We aren’t rooting for a single person in this because everyone is rotten.

As a side note, I’ve noticed that movies in which people get shot are getting progressively more gory. In this one, when someone is shot, blood and stuff splatters everywhere in spectacular fashion. Is that necessary?

It seems like this might have been an experiment to see if Simon Pegg can carry the lead in a film. I didn’t like this.

The only redeeming feature is that it was filmed in Western Australia, but that’s certainly not enough for me to recommend it.
