Dept Q, S01
If you like murder mysteries, you will love this. It doesn’t follow the usual format of death/follow the clues/solve the murder. Instead, there is a crime to solve (in this first season, it’s a missing person), and the murder happens around and among the following of clues.
The writing, the casting, the construction of the series is exceptional. I love the Scottish accents, the diversity if the cast, the way the story keeps us guessing until the very last episode. During most of the last episode of the season, I was so tense that I was yelling at the TV screen!
The side plots that keep the story from getting bogged down are interesting too. There is a father/son struggle, a budding relationship, and a second, more-personal, murder mystery that doesn’t get solved in the first season.
This is exceptional television. The only thing that I want to criticize are the opening credits. If you have epilepsy or sensitive eyes, look away. The opening credits are done with jerky, hyper-trendy animation that gave me a headache.
