The Electric State
Meh. This film is set in a post-war world in which humans and AI have fought because the AI wanted to be recognized as sentient. Humans were able to win only because a bad guy figured out how to upload human consciousness into a robot so it could be manipulated remotely for bot on bot battle.
Millie Bobbie Brown has been cast as a minor when she’s clearly well into her 20s, and Chris Pratt has been cast, yet again, as the earnest dumb guy.
The adventure begins when Millie’s character meets a bot that might hold the consciousness of the brother she thought was dead. Chris Pratt’s character helps her get to where she needs to go, and along the way they befriend a bunch of cool bots who have the voices of some great actors (including Woody Harrelson, Coleman Domingo, and Brian Cox).
Even with a cast of heavy-hitting veteran actors, a 90s aesthetic, cleverly designed bot characters, and one of the biggest budgets ever for a film, this is not worthy of recommendation.
It just doesn't come together well. The good guys are not great actors and the bad guys are melodramatically evil.
