Caught Stealing
Austin Butler does a good job holding down this funny, fast-moving, violent, crime thriller in which he is alternately chasing people and being chased by people.
In addition to some heavy-weight actors (like Liev Schreiber) and some fabulous cameos (like Bad Bunny!), a lovely cat also has an important role.
The premise is that a punk rocker needs to return to London for a few days to attend his father’s funeral so he leaves his cat with the neighbor (played by Austin Butler).
When gangsters of various ethnic groups begin searching for the punk rocker, Austin’s character gets caught up in some seriously dangerous situations.
I dislike stereotyping on principle, but the way the writer, Charlie Huston, played up the various ethnic groups is hilarious and it adds a lot of character to this film. There are the scary Russians, the super violent Hasidic Jews, the low-key terrifying Puerto Ricans, and the shady NYPD.
This is loud and bloody but it’s also a comical, light-hearted mystery that ends in a way that satisfies. This movie would be fun to watch with a group of friends.
