The Deleted Seth Material: November 15, 1965 - December 6, 1971

Back in the 80s, I came across The Nature of Personality Reality on my mother’s bookshelf. With the first paragraphs, I could strongly sense the truth on the page. I spent my 20s and 30s reading everything written by Seth, Jane Roberts and Richard Butts.

Their work has greatly shaped my understanding of reality and a plethora of related concepts like the depth of interconnection between people, the nature of the soul, what humanity is actually doing on Earth, the over-arching reason why humanity created religion, the way healing works, etc., etc.

Seth was the first person to talk about creating reality with one's thoughts and feelings. He did that back in the early 60s, and his knowledge was the foundation upon which the New Age movement happened in America.

It uses illness as a teaching method, and discards the method when the lesson is learned. In entire life situations - I am speaking in terms of a lifelong illness now - the illness is not predetermined by the personality to last the length of the life. Many severe illnesses disappear miraculously, it would seem, though an individual has been plagued since birth.
Here the lesson has been learned and the illness as a method discarded.

The ego’s desire for health and the organism’s impetus toward health, are constant balances, and are always present. The illness is not be regarded as a natural event, but the reason for it sought. The reason is often a lack of a quality. The realization of the lack and the mental, emotional, and psychic acquisition of the quality, brings the illness to a close.

[Robert asks Seth about the cases where a person dies from the illness]

In those cases the personality has done one of two things. It has solved one problem and decided to use the method to solve another, or it has decided that from its particular vantage point it would rather close the books and begin anew.

Death is not nearly as disagreeable, you see, as you think it is. Illness is far more disagreeable in many cases.

(“That’s about what I meant”.)

In other circumstances, though the problem is solved, the physical body, being physical, is in such poor condition that the personality decided it is much better to discard it completely.

The books that Seth, Jane, and Robert published in the 60s, 70s and 80s were facilitated by the note-taking by Robert of what Seth would say when Jane went into a trance.

As nuts as that sounds, the reading of a single page of Seth’s material is enough to acknowledge that his perspective of understanding is way beyond our own, that he speaks from a place of knowing because he exists at a different level than we do.

Because of Robert's meticulous note-taking, we know that certain material had been deleted from the record because those notes from Seth are of a highly personal nature, meant only for Jane and Robert.

The deleted, personal material is about their relationship, their parents, past-life dynamics, the health of both Jane and Robert, and their life together. For decades, I harbored a desire to make a trip to the Yale Library to read the deleted, personal material for myself.

But several years ago, the last remaining person on Earth to have spoken directly with Seth, a man named Rick Stack, a student and friend of both Jane and Robert, received permission from Robert (who died in 2015) to publish the Personal Sessions of deleted material.

This is the first of 6 books of previously unpublished material from Seth. Discovering additional material from Seth is very exciting!

When I learned (at the wake of Rick Stack in 2024) that this material had been published, I was thrilled! Imagine that your favorite author, who has been dead for centuries (or decades), suddenly releases six more books!

It is not I give you a spool of thread, and you give me a spool of thread, and we are even. You give to one in your way, and something may be given to you of a different nature by an entirely different person, and yet it is a result of your own giving. Therefore do not limit the flow of energy in such circumstances.

Now, about the book itself... Seth is a force of positivity and jovial kindness. He gave Jane and Robert everything they needed to fix certain problems in their lives, and continued respecting and loving them while they disregarded most of it over decades. He gave them loving, simple advice that was undermined again and again by Jane and Robert's rigid thoughts and unchallenged assumptions.

Seth was speaking directly to Joseph in this passage...

The inner self must become the immediate self, you see. This unity then puts you in a position to begin a truly fulfilling existence in other realities after physical death. You are solving many problems therefore now, since this is to be your last reincarnation in physical terms. You must know enough to speak nearly as an equal with your inner self in order to do this.

The process had finally to become conscious in your terms, with the ego highly involved. The intuitive portions of the personality had to have the full cooperation of the intellectual and conscious self at this point in your development and I am speaking of you both here. The conscious had to appreciate in quite real terms its dependence upon intuitional wisdom. There had to be agreement and unity.

The conscious self was not to be left by the wayside, wondering while the intuitional abilities led to fulfillment. The conscious intellectual faculties had to realize what was operating in order that they themselves be fulfilled. True questioning and true use of the critical faculties will always lead Ruburt [Jane], to intuitional truths, so there is no reason to fear them.

Those who do not understand their abilities intellectually must one day be led to question them. The intuitions and the intellect are meant to challenge and develop each other, and intuitional knowledge and intellectual knowledge will ultimately lead to the same answers. It is only when you do not carry through in either that there appears to be contradiction.

The reason why Robert and Rick decided to publish this material is because the advice Seth gives is universal. Anyone can use the techniques (of visualization based on feelings and the disposition of hopeful expectance) to change their life and their health.

It’s emotional for me to learn about the advice left on the table by Jane and Robert; to read about the ways that the couple unknowingly were hurting each other with glib comments and fear-based beliefs. I was also shocked to discover how much a role their parents played in the shaping of their lives and beliefs, even when Jane and Robert were in their 40s!

You must share your talent, that is why you have it. Underline that.

Reading this has helped me to finally let go of some cynicism that I grabbed onto in a certain phase of my life; has helped re-root me in knowledge I hope I never forget again.

This book - indeed, ANY Seth book - is highly recommended to anyone who is curious about the nature of reality. I would give this book 7 stars, if I could.
