The Wild Robot
I loved this! The story follows a shipwrecked robot as she understands her predicament, befriends the animals in the forest around her, and becomes the mother of an orphaned goose.
The storytelling is very dynamic with ups and downs, loud and quiet moments, expansive gestures and internal struggles, and each individual has a unique character-arc.
The visual style of the film is really lovely. It looks like watercolors, which is unique in today's world of photo-realistic, pixel-perfect animation.
The movie looks like it’s for kids, but it’s deeply emotional. I got choked up more than once. The themes include friendship, cooperation, kindness, determination, and belonging. Love in many different forms is also a major theme: motherly love, elder to youngster love, collective animal-love, and love between friends.
The voice talent chosen for the various characters is superb. Pedro Pascal as the fox, Bill Nighy as the elderly goose, Ving Rhames as the falcon, and Lupita Nyong’o as the robot are perfect. It’s impossible to not like this movie. 100% recommended.
