Bodies
I enjoyed this but hesitate to recommend it to serious lovers of storytelling. There are a tremendous amount of “poof!”s in this series - the just plot doesn’t hold up under any kind of scrutiny. I liked it because of the very distinct and well-cast characters, and the tension in the scenes set in the 1890s and the 1940s.
My partner wanted to stop watching this series almost immediately, but I was absolutely taken by the handsome detective of the 1890s and the problems that the detective in the 1940s found himself in.
While we were watching this, we’d discuss the possibilities over lunch, how the time travel thing would work, how such a network of people could have been brought together, how many times a certain person had gone back in time. We struggled to make the idea work.
In the last episode, just when we can very loosely hold the story together with bubble gum and duct tape, it gets blown into the wind by the final scene.
I’ve learned that this story is actually a DC graphic novel published in 2014-15. The TV version stars the fabulous Shira Hass, who was memorable in Shtisel and very convincing in Unorthodox, as well as a team of excellent actors who did a great job with a pretty weak script. Which is too bad. This could have been great.
